Simply put, Hope for the City acquires corporate surplus and delivers it to those in greatest need, who would otherwise have little or no access to such goods.

Hope for the City supports international Non-Government Organizations that provide humanitarian aid to those in need by shipping donated resources to health care facilities, schools, and orphanages throughout the world.

Growing Our International Impact
Partnering with trusted, carefully vetted charities abroad allows us to further leverage corporate surplus items that would otherwise go to waste in the United States.  Medical technology such as ultrasound machines and infant incubators, hospital beds, lab equipment and surgical supplies are frequently discarded and replaced for newer models by local hospitals and clinics - yet these items can help equip drastically under-stocked medical facilities in developing nations.  Education and basic needs supplies benefit schools and orphanages, often in war-torn areas.  We look forward to expanding our corporate surplus redistribution model to ensure that these desperately needed items reach the communities and organizations where they can do the most good.

Making an Impact Globally…
Hospitals and clinics in developing countries often lack the most basic medical equipment and supplies, from anesthesia machines to hospital beds to sterile syringes.  Orphanages struggle to provide for the many children whose parents have become victims of civil war, AIDS or hunger.  Schools don't have enough books and materials to supply every student who is eager to learn.

Life in developing nations around the world is difficult; yet Hope for the City sees an opportunity to take excess goods that U.S. organizations can no longer use and leverage them to improve the quality of life for thousands of children and adults around the world.

We work with carefully screened international charities and on-the-ground contacts who make sure the medical technology and supplies, educational materials and other basic needs items reach their intended destinations.  We're proud of our international efforts in 2010 - and look forward to expanding our reach and impact in the years to come.

Did you know?
For $8,000, approximately $350,000 - $500,000 worth of medical supplies and equipment can be shipped to a developing country?

In 2010, Hope for the City:

  • Distributed goods to six countries around the world
  • Shipped fifteen 20 and 40 foot long containers of medical equipment and supplies, educational materials and other basic needs items to hospitals, clinics, orphanages and schools in developing nations

A Success Story…
International Community Partner Focus:  St. Mary's Hospital Lacor, Gulu, Uganda

St. Mary's Hospital Lacor is a 476-bed hospital with an approximate inpatient census of 600 per day and also serving about 600 outpatients daily.  Medical equipment shipped via semi-trailer-sized containers by Hope for the City includes items such as hospital beds, dialysis machines, and other medical supplies.  When possible, Hope for the City does its best to secure specifically requested items.

For example, previously, newborn babies needing long-term incubation likely died due to lack of infant incubator equipment.  Hope for the City was able to secure incubators that are now saving lives in St. Mary's nursery.

When asked what they did for babies needing incubation prior to receiving incubators from Hope for the City, Sister Rose, a nurse administrator at the hospital, said, "We knew they wouldn't survive.  All we could do was pray for their souls."
