During the school year, one-third of Minnesota school aged children, approximately 300,000, rely on free or reduced-price lunches and breakfasts for two-thirds of their daily food. Only 20% continue to receive some type of nutrition support during the summer from the schools. That leaves a huge vacuum. The remainder aren't getting the nourishment they need for nearly three months of the year.  Hope for the City's "Lunch Box For Kids" program is designed to combat summer hunger by meeting the needs of Minnesota families who find their food supply stretched because of decreased food shelf donations and increased demands for meals at home when children aren't receiving breakfast and lunch at school.

For the fourth year, Hope for the City, Nash Finch, and 5 Eyewitness News worked together to deliver Lunch Boxes to food shelves throughout the Twin Cities. With your donations, we were able to deliver 4,500 lunch boxes in 2011.  This amounted to 90,000 lunches that fed 45,000 lunch for 2 weeks.
